Total number of green areas in urban areas. Green urban areas are urban spaces, or their periphery, and consist predominantly of trees, shrubs, or plants. Green urban areas may have different uses, including leisure, recreation, ecological uses, ornamentation, protection, recovery and rehabilitation of the environment, and other uses. Green urban areas are classified into two types: squares and parks. A square is defined as a regularly maintained space for public use, with a surface area of less than 2 hectares, located inside or adjacent to the urban limits of a city. An urban park is defined as a public space, where landscape and natural elements predominate, with a surface of 2 or more hectares.
