Number of sectors or areas with restrictions for the extraction of groundwater declared by the Directorate-General of Water (DGA). The declaration of a restricted groundwater area is an instrument used by the Directorate-General of Water to protect Hydrogeological Sectors of Common Use where there is a serious risk of a drop in water levels with the consequent damage to the rights of third parties established therein, or when the technical reports issued by the DGA show that the sustainability of the aquifer is in danger. Once this declaration has been issued, the DGA may grant extraction rights on only a provisional basis.
